My Story

Archangels of Merci Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It was inspired by volunteering at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA hospital where I worked for over a year as a surgical technologist. I came to work early many times due to the snow, so I went to the volunteer office to put in some time, as a volunteer, which was located in the hospital basement, where many volunteers would donate their time. The program was called “MERCI” which stands for Medical Equipment Recovery Clean Inventory. Once I understood the collection of medical supplies, it only made sense to collect, sort, and send them out to other rural hospitals or foreign medical missions within the community or across the globe. Working in surgery, I have seen items that technicians have opened and weren’t used, items like sutures, blades, gloves, gowns, etc. to keep from throwing them away we would collect and send them down to the basement to the MERCI program to sort and fill orders to go out to help someone in need.

It was an excellent experience for me. With that, I wanted to start my own non-profit to supply vital medical supplies to those in need. My surgical/medical experience over 20 years of working in different hospitals has led me to see the medical waste of unopened-unused medical supplies. I would like to help eliminate some of the medical waste thrown out and prevent it from going to the land fields that will help keep our environment clean and give a helping hand to the community and across the globe. We are here to serve, supply, and seal the medical mission with a giving hand at no cost.
